Starting over 40 years ago with Chris and John, Cardy Racing has been building and racing winners ever since. Now with Jay driving in his 16th year, the legacy continues.
Cardy Racing and GPPD have joined forces to create the formidable GPPD Team Cardy. Long time supporter Sterlo Ashbee from GPPD in Sydney has throw his support behind Chris and Jay to create this partnership.
Chris, one half of GPPD Team Cardy, has been building Cardy chassis here in Perth, Western Australia for over 30 years. His interest in speedway started when his late brother John Cardy began racing in the 70s and he was one of the founding members of the Late Model movement in WA and the inaugural CEO. Chris runs Cardy Racing Components in Malaga - one of the leading sedan parts shops here in Australia. Thanks to his technical knowledge and chassis design expertise, GPPD Team Cardy has been one of Australia’s most respected teams for over a decade. Prior to his involvement in late models, Chris had an AMCA team with his son Jay Cardy and cousin Sterlo Ashbee.
Sterlo, the other half of GPPD Team Cardy, is based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia and owns and operates GPPD. He has a real passion for motorsport and when his own racing days came to an end he was keen to remain involved in the team. Sterlo had a varied racing career but in speedway terms was an AMCA Nationals driver before turning his attention to compete in over 15 Iron Man triathlons both here in Australia and overseas. His determination and tendency to dream big are an asset to the team. Sterlo’s current focus is getting his pilot’s licence.
Tony Bissett, or as most people know him “Yup”, is our main man in the pits. Nothing is too much for Yup, a heavy duty diesel mechanic who helps with everything on race day and during the week both on the car and the hauler. Yup is a budding muso who specialises in designing and making his own custom guitars out of various tools and objects, our favourite being his shovel guitar. A great guy and a valued member of GPPD Team Cardy.
